Hack the Herd – The 2025 Amherst College AI in Sustainability Hackathon was a collaboration between the Office of Sustainability, AI in the Liberal Arts, Ideas 2 Innovation (Amherst’s First-Ever Venture Accelerator), and the Computer Science clubs at Amherst College. Students spent 24hrs over last weekend coming up with AI inspired solutions to campus sustainability challenges. Six teams of four students each came up with some very clever and innovative ways to help reduce food waste, improve recycling, track and educate users on their streaming carbon footprint, navigate the Val menu with an eye towards healthy eating, and monitor personal travel carbon footprints.
